Post by EldonPost by PixiePost by Richard FordThe difference between Scientology and science based medicine is that
science can be wrong!
science can not be wrong, scientific THEORY can be wrong, which people
make and can be wrong about, PEOPLE can be wrong about science, not
science.
Post by Richard FordIn other words it changes and improves.
scientific THEORY changes and improves, science does not change,
positive always attracts negative, gravity stays the same in given
conditions, its the theories that change.
Post by Richard FordDianetics was a crock of shit in 1950 and will always be. Science
based medicine is a little better each year.
there are new medicines, new break throughs, new follies, and new
disasters, which are avoided in future, however, new disasters spring
up too. Vioxx, thalidomide, etc, are all science based medicine
disasters which were the new "wonder drug" of their day which did not
make the lives better of those that took it, life was better for those
that took it prior to their development.
False. Thalidomide was bad for the unborn children of women who took
it during pregnancy, but did nothing physically harmful to the mothers
who took it. It is still being used today with success.http://www.bbc.co.uk/insideout/southwest/series7/thalidomide.shtml
er, i said " which did not
make the lives better of those that took it" i did not say it
PHYSICALLY HARMED HER, as it was used for pregnancy, it may not be
physically harmful to the mother, but it sure as hell effected her
life, nor make it BETTER, I am sure as hell she didnt set out to have
a dead or deformed baby, and if you think having a dead or deformed
baby makes your life better, there are a few i would like to send to
you from Africa... next time you have a baby with no arms or legs
which you have to take care of for the rest of your life due to a
medication you took, you tell me how much better or worse your life
is. i made no such statement that it PHYSICALLY HARMED THE MOTHER.
"Garry is not immune to other side effects of the drug though. His
hands and feet have become numb and are prone to locking up, so he
finds it difficult to move them.He suffers from a lot of muscular
pain. However although this is less than ideal, it keeps his killer
disease at bay."
anyway, if you know anything about thalidomide, it was one of the
enantiomers that was the bad seed, by getting a stereospecific
synthesis it should not cause so many problems, it is probably
doubtful that they are using the racemic mix of enantiomers currently
in the thalidomide given out today. if they are it is purely for
economical reason, any chemist or biochemist should have known that
one of the enantiomers were not active for its intended use far BEFORE
ANY CLINICAL TRIALS. enantiomers are screened extensively, if nothing
else the enantiomer was left in due to ECONOMIC reasons rather than
scientific reasons as it would be more expensive to leave the
enantiomer in than separate it out, or create an enantiomerically pure
synthesis. so, please tell me again how pharmaceuticals are not driven
by ECONOMICS but rather the scientific purity and medical use of a
compound? No one gives a shit about ANYTHING that will save your life
if it is too expensive to make, your life is simply not worth the
dollars thanks. however, this is one example of a drug that has gone
horribly wrong and did more harm than good for its intended use. You
can sit back and say hoorah now, but if you were one of the mothers
that took this medication for sedation, etc during pregnancy, i think
you would be pretty pissed off that your baby was used as an
experiment and lost its life.
I am not saying the MEDICATION itself is BAD, it was used in the WRONG
WAY without proper scientific knowledge, or IF the knowledge WAS KNOWN
it was IGNORED for ECONOMIC REASONS! like many new prescriptions
today, doctors DONT KNOW what the hell its going to do to you as
proper screening has not been carried out by drug companies but they
just push their drugs to be sold for the money they rake in. another
support of this post in how drug companies influence doctors to use
their meds for various uses without proper screening being done. why
thank you, i rest my case.
